BJP Releases Gujarat Poll: Policy

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi released his agenda for the upcoming state elections.
The BJP has decided to go with the theme - housing, electricity, and roads - in its manifesto and has focused on providing better roads, better irrigation facilities and affordable housing.

His agenda includes:

- Affordable housing for the poor. The manifesto says the BJP will build 2.8 million houses for the poor in rural areas, 2.2 million houses in the urban region.

- The BJP also promises to provide farmers with loans at lower interest rates.

- All farm electricity connections to be cleared immediately.

-  Agro-processing units, cold storages to be set up in all Gujarat districts.

- Gujarat's BJP government promises to double the state's already impressive road network in the next five years, providing better connectivity.

- The manifesto promises to give employment and assistance to almost 30 lakh women.

- The age for eligibility for government jobs will be increased to 28 or 30 on a case-by-case basis.

-  Potable water will be provided to everyone in the next five years, the manifesto promises.

- All Saurashtra dams to have Narmada water in the next three years.

- BJP promises group insurance for every individual.

- Gujarat will double its power-generation capacity in three years, says the manifesto.

- The manifesto also says that the state will continue to be in the forefront in harnessing and generating power from non-traditional energy sources too.

- Multi-speciality hospitals will be set up in the state's major cities -- Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara.
